VENDOR PORTION OF FEST WEST '98

AND POST FW98 ACTIVITIES

Now it was on to the Sheraton Four Points Hotel for an afternoon and evening of mixing with fellow TI99ers from all over the country and Europe. Plus the ability to see additional speakers and demos in the hall and the Speakers Room. The first speaker on the agenda was Bill Gaskill. This was to allow Bill to complete the talk he had originally planned to do in its entirety at the TI facility. Needless to say, the Speakers Room was full. During his time, Bill tested those in attendance with some TI-99/4A Trivia. (The Trivia Quiz will be coming to this web site soon!).

After Bill, Mike Wright of CaDD Electronics presented a demonstration of the new soon-to-be-released PC99. Mike, despite felling a little under the weather, presented a very interesting talk. Those who have PC99 are now chomping at the bit for the new version. Those who don't have it are now very interested in getting it.

Michael Becker of Germany showing new cards developed in Germany

The last formal speaker was Michael Becker of the System 99 User Group demonstrated the cards being produced in Germany. The quality of the cards was excellent. They looked extremely professionally produced and worked quite well. The last demo was in the Main Hall and was put on by Jack and BJ Mathis of the SouthWest Ninety Niners User Group. It was a brief demo of the Super AMS card produced and sold by the user group. The demo was to mainly answer questions from attendees about just what the Super AMS card is.

After the demonstrations were concluded, the raffle drawing was held. The prizes and the winners were:

Super AMS Card

PC99 Software GramKracker High Speed GPL Card Princess Diana Stamps directly from the U.K. During the entire time the main hall was open, there was a box set aside for casting ballots for the Jim Peterson Awards. Everyone was given a ballot when they registered. At the end of Fest West '98 - Lubbock, the ballots were given to the representatives of the Cleveland User Group, Harrison and Nina Hoffman. The Hoffmans were to give the ballots to Jim Krych who has been responsible for the Jim Peterson Award voting. To also assist with the Jim Peterson Awards, the Cleveland User Group ran the Consignment Table, manned mainly by Nina Hoffman, with help from Harrision Hoffman. The profits from the consignment fee was to go to helping out with the Jim Peterson Awards. This was an excellent cause. Some attendees even contributed cash to the cause. Unofficially, there were 27 ballots cast for the Jim Peterson Awards.

The Official Fest West '98 - Lubbock was now officially concluded. However, the main hall remained open to TI99ers who just didn't want it to be over. The room wasn't actually closed and locked until almost midnight. Even then, those still in the room didn't want to leave. It had been a long day, and an exciting Once in a Lifetime Experience.

Even though the number of vendors was less than wanted, and several who had reserved tables didn't show, there was plenty to see and do. The vendors in attendance included:

SouthWest Ninety Niners User Group
Cleveland Users Group (Consignment Table - Proceeds going to Jim Peterson Awards)
Dallas TI Home Computer User Group
CaDD Electronics
David Connery
Michael Becker/System 99 User Group

No shows included Cecure Electronics, S&T Software, and Zach D.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 15, 1998

On Sunday morning at 9:00 A.M., a breakfast brunch was held for all who wanted to attend. The cost was $7.95 each (plus tax with the SW99UG picking up the gratuity). Thirty Six TI99ers showed up for the breakfast. This was a fun time for all. It was one last chance to talk to people we may never get to see again, or at least not for another year.

After eating their fill, people started filtering out of the room to get packed for the trip home. By ones and twos, people left the hotel for the airport and to drive home. By evening, there were still about a half dozen TI99ers at the hotel. Needless to say, they were all exhausted and really tired. On Monday, the remnants of Fest West '98 - Lubbock were gone. The last TI99ers left, and Fest West '98 - Lubbock was now history.
